DDR-Glacier Bay HS Science Field Cam
Recruiting the top 10% of Alaska's graduating seniors to the University of Alaska is more possible now than ever before with the downturn in our nation's economy and the rising costs of a college education. To try and stem this "Brain Drain" exodus from Alaska, UAS hosted the first 2 modules of an Alaska Summer Research Academy-like (UAF)modelled camp to inspire AK high school students in field science. 10 students traveled to Glacier Bay National Park on the 60' M/V Glacier Seal , while 5 traveled to Little Port Walter by Twin Otter (float plane). All learned how research is done from the people who are doing it. Connor utilized a string of 5 SEAMONSTER temperature sensing instruments (Hoboes) to collected water profile data from a buoy at 10 meter intervals up the West Arm at Margerie and Reid tidewater-ish Glaciers, and down bay in deglaciated Blue Mouse Cove.
